American travel vlogger Dustin recently encountered a disturbing situation during his visit to Kolkata, India. After choosing a local taxi over a ride-hailing app, he asked to be taken to Hotel Great Western on Park Street. Instead, the driver took him 15 kilometers off-course to a hotel called “The Western” in Rajarhat.

When Dustin questioned the route, the driver increased the agreed ₹700 fare to ₹900. Matters escalated when another man in a red shirt joined the vehicle. Although he initially posed as a mediator, he soon began threatening Dustin in Bengali, saying, “I have connections with the mafia, I’ll drag him to a lonely place and break his bones.” This entire incident was recorded and later posted to Dustin’s YouTube channel titled “Taxi Driver in Kolkata Tried to Cheat and Threaten Me.”

Eventually, Dustin was placed in a different cab and taken to his actual destination—but only after paying ₹800 total, including a demand for ₹100 in “parking and petrol.”
Despite the incident, Dustin emphasized his continued love for India and urged tourists to use ride-hailing apps for safety.
