A newlywed couple from Indore, Madhya Pradesh—Raja and Sonam Raghuvanshi—has gone missing during their honeymoon trip in Meghalaya. The couple had arrived in Shillong and reportedly rented a scooter to explore the scenic region of Sohra (Cherrapunji) on May 23, 2025. However, they never returned to their accommodation. Alarmed by their disappearance, local authorities were alerted, and an immediate search operation was launched.

The rented scooter was later discovered abandoned near Sohrarim village, a remote and forested area in the East Khasi Hills. Notably, the keys were still in the ignition, and there was no sign of the couple. Since then, an intensive multi-agency search effort has been underway involving drones, sniffer dogs, and Meghalaya’s Special Operations Team. Search zones have included treacherous terrains like Mawkdok and the surrounding gorge systems.

In response to growing concerns, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav personally contacted Meghalaya CM Conrad Sangma to ensure maximum efforts were made to trace the couple. As of now, both Raja and Sonam’s phones remain unreachable, and no leads have confirmed their whereabouts.
Officials have not ruled out any possibilities, though no evidence of foul play has been found yet. The case has prompted serious discussions about tourist safety and the importance of guided exploration in remote regions.
