London/Mumbai, June 13, 2025 — Prominent industrialist Sunjay Kapur, former husband of Bollywood actress Karisma Kapoor, has passed away at the age of 53 after suffering a sudden heart attack during a polo match at the Guards Polo Club in Windsor, United Kingdom. The tragic incident took place on Thursday afternoon, shocking both the corporate and entertainment worlds.

Kapur was participating in a friendly game when he reportedly collapsed mid-match. Despite immediate medical attention and being rushed to a nearby hospital, he was declared dead on arrival. The cause of death has been confirmed as cardiac arrest.
A well-known figure in the auto industry, Kapur served as the Chairman of Sona Group, one of India’s leading automotive component manufacturers. An alumnus of MIT and Harvard, he was also a passionate polo player and an active member of elite sporting circles.
Sunjay Kapur married Karisma Kapoor in 2003 and the couple had two children—Samaira and Kiaan Raj—before going through a highly publicized divorce in 2016. He later remarried Priya Sachdev, and reports suggest the couple was expecting a child.

In an emotional twist, Kapur’s final tweet—posted just hours before his death—expressed condolences to the victims of the Air India AI171 crash near Ahmedabad. That tweet has since gone viral, adding to the emotional impact of his passing.
Back in Mumbai, several celebrities, including Kareena Kapoor Khan, Saif Ali Khan, and Malaika Arora, were seen visiting Karisma Kapoor’s residence to offer their support and condolences.
Funeral arrangements are yet to be announced. His sudden death has left his family, friends, and colleagues in deep mourning.
