In a gripping encounter at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on June 1, the Punjab Kings (PBKS) scripted history by defeating Mumbai Indians (MI) by five wickets in Qualifier 2 of the IPL 2025. With this win, PBKS have made it to their first IPL final since 2014, reigniting hopes of clinching their maiden IPL title.

Batting first, MI posted an imposing 203/6 in 20 overs. The top-order fired in unison, with Suryakumar Yadav and Tilak Varma scoring 44 runs each, and Jonny Bairstow adding a quick 38. The innings was briefly interrupted by rain, but play resumed without any loss of overs.

Chasing a steep target, PBKS got off to a solid start and maintained momentum throughout. Captain Shreyas Iyer led from the front with a scintillating 87 off just 41 balls*, hammering eight sixes and showing exceptional composure under pressure. He was well supported by Nehal Wadhera (48) and Josh Inglis (38), ensuring PBKS crossed the finish line in just 19 overs.
This win sets up an exciting IPL 2025 final between PBKS and Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) — both franchises still in search of their first championship title. The final promises to be a historic showdown.
