A celebratory event turned tragic on June 4, 2025, when a massive stampede outside the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru claimed the lives of at least 11 people and injured more than 30 others. The incident occurred during a public event organized to celebrate the Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s (RCB) first-ever Indian Premier League (IPL) title victory.

Thousands of fans had gathered around the stadium hoping to catch a glimpse of their cricketing heroes. The situation spiraled out of control as crowds surged toward the gates amid reports of a last-minute change in entry access. In the chaos, people were crushed and trampled as panic spread rapidly.
Emergency services faced significant delays in reaching the victims due to the overwhelming crowd density. Several victims, including women and children, were rushed to nearby hospitals. Despite immediate medical attention, some were declared brought dead.

Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah expressed profound sorrow over the incident and announced a magisterial inquiry to determine lapses in crowd management and security. The RCB victory parade was promptly canceled. Prime Minister Narendra Modi also conveyed his condolences to the families of the deceased and called for a thorough investigation.

This tragedy has sparked widespread criticism of poor crowd control and lack of preparedness, raising serious questions about safety measures at large public gatherings in India.
