Rosmita Hojai, a 25-year-old civil services aspirant from Dima Hasao district in Assam, was tragically found dead in Uttarakhand after being reported missing from Delhi. A bright engineering graduate, Rosmita had traveled to the capital on June 5, 2025, to appear for the Railway Recruitment Board (RRB) exam. Following her exam, she joined two acquaintances—Hemant Sharma and Pankaj Kokar—for a short trip to Rishikesh, Uttarakhand. During their visit to the Phoolchatti area near Muni ki Reti, Rosmita reportedly went missing under mysterious circumstances.

On June 10, after five days of intense search operations, the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) recovered her body from the Ganga River. Initial observations revealed no external injuries, and authorities suspect suicide, potentially driven by emotional distress and academic pressure. However, the exact cause of death is still pending confirmation from the postmortem report.
Police have detained both male companions for questioning, as they were the last people seen with her. They claim that Rosmita was swept away while near the river, but the incident has sparked demands from groups like the All Dimasa Students’ Union for a full and fair investigation to rule out any foul play.
