Ahmedabad, June 12, 2025 — In a devastating aviation tragedy, Air India Flight AI171, operating a scheduled service from Ahmedabad to London Heathrow, crashed shortly after takeoff near the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport in the early hours of Thursday morning. The aircraft, a Boeing 787 Dreamliner, reportedly experienced a sudden technical failure at around 5:45 AM, losing altitude rapidly before crashing into an open field adjacent to the airport’s perimeter.

The flight was carrying 189 passengers and 11 crew members. As of now, authorities have confirmed multiple fatalities, and several others have been rushed to nearby hospitals with serious injuries. Rescue operations are ongoing, with teams from the airport fire services, National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), and local law enforcement working tirelessly at the scene.
Eyewitnesses in the vicinity described a terrifying moment, with a loud explosion followed by plumes of thick smoke rising into the sky. Debris was scattered across a wide area, and the impact caused a significant fire, making early rescue efforts extremely difficult.

The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) and Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) have launched a formal investigation. Preliminary findings will be shared with the public as soon as they are available.
Air India, expressing deep grief over the tragic incident, has activated emergency response protocols and set up a helpline for relatives and friends of those on board. Counseling and support services are also being offered.

This disaster has sparked a nationwide conversation about air safety standards and maintenance oversight in India’s civil aviation sector.
